This doesn’t physically make sense. When the water in your pipes freezes, it expands and can crack the pipes in it’s frozen state. It’s not going to crack the pipes as it melts (and retracts).

For something of this size in the video, you can just get some PVC pipe and get a cover for one end, and a screw on section for the other end. It's probably a little cheaper to use and also also likely a bit smaller to bury.
