Absolutely. Though I've never had an online date that successfully turned into a relationship, the ones where there was a lot of time before meeting always seemed to lack chemistry.
Too much buildup (of whatever kind) seems to lead to awkward first dates (I am an epically awkward first-dater anyway, but exponentially more so if there's been a long preliminary texting/phone convo phase before the first IRL date), and no (fewer?) second dates.
