For some reason, only Fox News works on our TV in the breakroom at my work. So my lunch break consists of eating food and trying to decide if I should yell/laugh/cry at the mental gymnastics as they try to push Trump as amazing and Hillary as horrible.

Yes, Hillary is the bigot. Everything’s clear now, thanks for that.

And I think people generally acknowledge that rape was one of the horrors of slavery.

That’s a good point, and something that has been rolling around the back of my mind throught this discussion. I think the larger question we’re dancing around here, both in this discussion and in society at large, is whether rape is something that people do, or whether a rapist is who someone is?

The interesting thing in this case is that it’s not just bros and dudes defending Parker. Because of his movie’s subject matter and he’s a rare rising directing talent of color, some of the most liberal minded people are torn on how to feel. The Jezebel writers have been pretty wishy washy on this. Even more

Who could have ever conceived that a network built around the premise that sexual harassment didn’t exist was a hotbed of sexual harassment? Next you will try to tell me that they harbor anti-gay and racist attitudes as well.

I want this whole sexual-harrassment-at-Fox thing to get really ugly.

If this woman were black we wouldnt know about it because she probably would not have reported it, even if she tried student and community “leaders” and even friends would probably have browbeaten her into “ not taking down another black man “

Consent or not , any person old enough to have sex knows inviting two OTHER people (one declined and testified at the trial )to join in while the girl is incapacitated is a SCUM BAG move.

Instead of pinning all your hopes on one black man to tell a story why not support and promote all the other people of color who also have stories to tell, who haven’t raped people and otherwise gotten away with it?

“I’m tired of slave movies. I’m so exhausted from seeing Hollywood fall in love with any movie that shows the suffering of black and brown people.”

Ok, it just strikes me as strange that a gang-rape included consent according to the courts. His continued harassment must have also been extraordinarily traumatizing. I also believe that athletes get extraordinary priviledges in university campuses.

PREACH! The “suspicious timing” argument irks me to the core. I remember when the debacle around Bill Cosby began to unfold and the conspiracy theorist were talking nonsense that the “accusations” only came out because he was “about to purchase a network”. NO, these are not instances of social stratification and

he BROUGHT HIS DAUGHTER ALONG to the Variety interview and then objected to the questions about the rape pointing out that he couldn’t talk about it in front of his daughter

My sister just told me that he BROUGHT HIS DAUGHTER ALONG to the Variety interview and then objected to the questions about the rape pointing out that he couldn’t talk about it in front of his daughter.

The transcripts of his conversation with her make it pretty clear that it wasn’t consensual. I believe that at the time he thought it was okay. I also believe that he’s smart enough to know by now that what he did was categorically wrong.

Yes, the timing is indeed suspicious. It’s almost like the public didn’t know Nate Parker even existed before and so can only now really care about a rape case which was previously swept under the rug. Weeeeeiiiiirrrrd. 🙄

So unfair for people to not forget the thing that he did, especially now that he has all this attention. He tries not to think about it, why can’t we all do the same?

Yeah, the timing comes from the publicity push. Gang-rape isn’t a good look on anybody. The sentencing of the original trial was bizarre too; How could one member of a gang rape only be committing rape?

Dude is totally guilty.
