I feel like I recall other shows in the past having their reviews spread out with one being released every day or two (though now I can’t recall what show it was; maybe early Orange is the New Black?). That format wouldn’t be perfect either but it would at least give a little more room for wide reaching discussion

Yeah, I’m trying to forget the book. Like I mentioned in another comment, at a certain point you just have to accept that and take it for what it is which is why I’m a little frustrated with the constant comparisons in the reviews here.

As for the time jumps, I found them a little disorienting in the first two

Ha, I actually love the Liam Neeson version too but as scholcky fun, though it did actually terrify me when I was little. My fiance and I love to call out, “Ellllleeaaaannnooor” to each other like the little ghost kids.

Yeah, the family drama definitely works for me and so far it is what is keeping me coming back more so than the horror elements. That’s part of my surprise because horror is one of my favorite genres so it’s weird that the more This is Us qualities are what are keeping me coming back to an ostensible horror story.

Ha, yeah, I definitely laughed at that PhD line. And I agree that a lot of the horror elements are very tropey though I think some of them have still managed to be pretty effective while others have been less so. I’m trying really hard not to get too specific because I don’t want to spoil anything major for anyone but

The bulk reviews of shows that release all at once are hard to have a real conversation on so, thoughts on The Haunting of Hill House (keeping spoilers to a minimum if possible)?

I’ve watched the first four episodes and so far I think it’s mostly pretty good but I’m a little surprised that the balance seems to tip a

I had the same thought. Doesn’t exactly seem like a foolproof plan.

I’ve seen the vast majority of both Seasons 1 and Season 5 and then quite a few random episodes from other seasons here and there. Those are just the first two episodes I saw.

Sorry your miserable, edgy comments are still in the greys after all this time. Give it a couple hundred more tries and they might finally let you sit at the adult table.

His explanation is more or less why I couldn’t get into the show. The first episode I ever saw was Diversity Day and I was immediately turned off. The second episode I saw was the one where Michael outs Oscar. It’s been years now since I’ve seen either episode but he came off as such an asshole in both episodes and,

Can someone point me in the direction of the specific bonkers CNN interview referenced in the article?

I’m sure this has been talked about before (probably in the Hero or Hate Crime episode) but I love that FX allows “fuck” these days.

That sentence was a beautiful crescendo of hilarity and absurdity.

The Mummy as in the Brendan Fraser mummy? I definitely lusted after Arnold Vosloo as a kid if only for the fact that he was a half naked man that my repressed, gay, Mormon self could appreciate.

Agree with everything here. I don’t have a super in-depth memory of the whole movie but I recall enjoying it for what it was quite a bit. And I fucking love the Juno dialogue and I’m so bored of those complaints. Barring stuff like mumblecore which has a lot of improvised dialogue that is meant to feel natural, movie

For me, I tend to sympathize with Jasmine in Angel Season 4. She brings complete peace and harmony to Los Angeles in the span of a couple weeks and has the power to bring that to the whole world. Sure, she eats people. But considering how many people are no longer being murdered, a couple people happily giving up

On the one hand, I definitely think you have a valid point about not really having to pick apart sitcom logic.

Re: Hayes’ physical comedy, my favorite moment was when he used his face to dial Estefan and then properly set the phone up against the fruit bowl so he’d be visible on facetime. I’m amazed at how smoothly he did that and wonder how many takes it took to get that right.

I’m glad you mentioned Woody Harrelson’s
