I’m no EV battery expert, but as an Mechanical Engineer, I didn’t see anything that stood out to me as bad. Like you said, many of the decision made sense to me for the application.

I dont get why Munro (and Lawrence) think this is a “badly built battery”. It is heavy, sure, but any battery made to give this truck meaningful range AND survive offroad is going to be heavy. Steel vs aluminum...I guess aluminum could have been better but who knows what reasons GM decided to go with steel for. Maybe

At least you can fix the GM pack by swapping a module. The Tesla pack is unrepairable trash if you have a single cell failure.

Compared to it’s 12mpg predecessor, in terms of CO2 output the Hummer EV is a gigantic leap forward.

Now playing

Other than the weight, I don’t see where the difficulty was to take it apart to get to the modules and cells. It looks like they came out pretty easily and cleanly which is good for servicing and recycling. That will ultimately reduce repair and insurance costs and increase resale.

I find it strange that Elon says VW is the company next to his that does the most for EV’s when GM is getting ready to bury Tesla....and it will. Those who don’t agree with me  is because they have no clue what GM has been doing especially for the last 5 years.

So how does anyone continue to like this guy after he shits all over Americans?

Dude is lying/shitposting/delusional. Pick 2.

Sounds like that Prius was broken. It isn’t a Ferrari, but it can keep up at highway speeds and merge well enough.

Exactly right. Obviously a Prius hater letting his bias affect his judgement.

If I remember the reviews, the 2nd gen Honda Insane (Insight) was worse, they spoke of trying to drive up hills in Seattle or SF and having it run out of battery power half way up and then the gut-less 1.5l (?) didn’t have enough power by itself to make it the rest of the way up the hill.

I’m confused, too. I had the virtually the same car (‘04 GTO) and literally nothing they typed reflected my experience. The automatic was known to be a bit of a dog but the manual was a tick behind the F-Body, with every other aspect of the car massively refined. Dude musta found Rob’s leftover Crack Pipes from the

The only LS I’ve driven that qualifies as “sucky” is the 4.8's in the trucks.

Welcome to the world of inexpensive low revving pushrod engines that would last forever. There is a reason GM earned “ GM engines run bad longer than most engines run”. Besides as any LS/LT wingnut will tell you the engines outside of displacement weren’t particularly massive in physical dimension.

People can dither

You clearly didn’t own 70s and 80s cars.

There is a difference between a ‘weak’ engine and a ‘bad’ engine. The Iron Duke was certainly weak. It was never bad. They are bulletproof, easy to work on, and will last nearly forever with regular maintenance. The world is full of examples of fancy, high-power engines that regularly detonate unless absolutely

I’d take the 3800, the 302 and the Cologne 4.0 OHV off that list. They’re very dependable engines.

Hot take on the LS1. First time I have ever seen someone complain about the LS having “no torque”, or not revving. Granted, 6500 won’t set the world on fire, but it’s hardly disappointing.

The Prius seems a little unfair as it really isn’t any slower than many other economy cars. IIRC the 0-60 on that gen prius was in the 10 second range or so, which is still not uncommon on a lot of newer cars. It’s also a far cry from being dangerous. Now, an 80s land cruiser with the carb’d I6, or a diesel chevette?

I did some growing up driving a Duke. It was solid. Not powerful, but solid.
