He never had any humanity to begin with. He was characterized awfully in the movies and went from awesomest jedi off screen ever to petulant broody teen. If there’s a lesson to take away from the prequels its that Anakin was a simpleton pushed to the edge because he had the emotional composure of a 5 year old.
