Amen! God forbid marginalized people have catharsis that doesn’t translate into things like a robust white nationalist party taking over the presidency while white people can’t seem to decide if the GOP is a white nationalist party at this point.

You can’t account for people being butthurt about being the locus of systemic and institutional discrimination. Sorry white people pride precludes ever telling the truth to some white people because they’ll react poorly. 

This is it - Being a white man I am not so put upon by the world in systemic ways that people hurt by systemic racism/sexism/etc declaring their outrage, tiredness, everything has a tangible negative impact on my life.

The question isn’t where has all the socially conscious stuff gone, it’s why is current hip hop relatively bereft of it when at one time it was not at all. One can easily argue thats the nature of capitalism finding profit in art which maybe is why some genres like folk music or hardcore/punk is still more socially…
