One day I will create a videogame where you can wear high-heels if you choose to, and work normally with them. When you run, however, you will stumble every 10 steps, and receive 10% damage + and 1% change to instantly die, because this is fucking bullshit.

Everyone defending Samus' comedic sexualization in a nutshell:

I don't see this as female objectification as I do a cheapening of the character to cater to a very specific market.

:( I will always remember this Samus.

Except she was kicking butt for nearly 25 years without combat stilettos. She's supposed to be a seasoned, battle-scarred bounty hunter, not friggin' Bayonetta.

As someone else said, context matters.

I think this sums it up pretty well:

Did anyone else notice how they sexed up Zero Suit Samus in this game, and mis-hear the announcer as saying they gave her "jet boobs" in her video?

I don't even want to begin knowing how it's going to be free to play, knowing Square-Enix. Probably microtransactions out the ass, maybe some sort of bullshit energy/time gate.

Man, I really hate how bland and generic they've made Samus' appearance over the years.

I'm not crazy about his artwork, either, but you should probably note that he's been active in the industry for over a decade at this point. A lot of the similar work you've seen in the past could very well have actually been his work (in addition to game illustration, he's drawn issues of Western video game comics

I understand Michael Pachter's role in the industry (and how he has carved a nice niche for himself by making these kinds of analyses). However, I think this kind of talk about "winning" is more of a self fulfilling prophecy that fuels an already toxic community rather than just allowing people to make their own

This comic Samus a lot more depth than everything Other M did

Did I ever link you to the 18-page analysis of everything Other M got wrong? It's 18 friggin' pages. But it's a damn good read.

Offscreen, that's how. Most people are pretty okay with games not including things like sleep or pooping, especially if they're games like Metroid, so it stands to reason that most people should be pretty okay with the acceptable break from reality of her not removing the suit.

Ah, spikey-boots Samus with the high heels.

Except, in Other M's case, it didn't sell very well compared to the other games.... but, yes, it did sell a bit better in Japan than elsewhere. Trust me, I'm Japanese. I know first-hand how often Japanese develops delve into the well of "pretty people" to try and sell a game. The reason Final Fantasy 12 didn't star

Yes, but the key difference is, unlike the examples you mentioned, Samus wasn't ALWAYS hyper-sexual and glamour-model pretty. She was always attractive, yes, but she was not a walking anime lovepillow.

Agreed! I mean, the Aliens influence isn't even that subtle (We have Ridley as an main enemy, named both for Ridley Scott, director of Alien, and a play on Ripley, the heroine). The Metroids are basically flying face huggers. We have our expendable space marines. We have our Metroid evolutions (and Queen Metroid).

Come on, Nintendo, don't corrupt your perfectly decent character by reducing her to boobs in a suit for people like the above, AGAIN.
