How late were manual transmissions in rally cars / other high end racing? Was McRae’s car here a manual? It sounds like it’s shifting pretty fast

One reported, but stories of drivers driving beyond their skill are plentiful.

I’ll leave you to find others but here’s one example after a quick search

I hope there are multiple levels of waivers required to buy one of these. Given the number of Hellcats that were wrecked almost immediately after purchase, selling a car with drag slicks may be even worse, at least for the owners.

You guys joke about Calabogie, but it’s a serious track. It’s my local track and is very technical with a lot of elevation change. Lots of relatively low speed corners that low end grunt from the turbos would be a big advantage. The track record is something like a Radical at under 2 minutes, and Ford’s time of 2:09

Noooo! Save the FJs!

I like the Touareg. Of all of its VAG stablemates (Cayenne, Q7), there is something about it that I prefer. Here’s hoping current Touaregs go on sale and one day I can pick one up!

5th gear: paint everything Swedish Racing Green

Yes but it’s Vancouver, where even that temperature doesn’t let the hipsters wear what they want and everyone forgets how to drive in slightly damp conditions.

Come join us! But I suggest waiting a few months because we’re colder than Mars right now (in degree C)

So Tom if you were considering a Boxster/Cayman, how many miles would be your “stay away” level? Are they generally good past 60k? (In Canada, so approx 100k km)

Here’s my question about this process. Say you’re probably capable of paying full price but are not interested. If you submit a “bid” of say, $400,000 or even closer to MSRP at about $250,000 will you get laughed out? How long would a car have to sit at that stupid high price for them to move? I feel like this must be

I love what RC quadcopters/octocopters have done for aerial photography.

No one should be surprised by this. When they went to Amazon, those of us not in the US thought, “amazing, now it’ll be international!” but instead they release it incrementally and make a great many international fans wait until a month after first launch. I would support them properly but not if I have to wait. It’s

Google the story of “P-p-powerbook” for some inspiration. That one is gold

Given that Porsche sells more V6 powered Cayennes (ie. the cheapest version of that product) than any other vehicle they make, is this surprising?

If it’s running a turbine, conceivably it could be powered by almost any burning fuel, if hydrogen is not available. Would be interesting if it has a back up tank for heavier oil in those situations.

I hope they build from people’s feedback and take the name “Grand Tour” to heart and do more episodes about going somewhere interesting and buying 3 local cars.

Top Gear / The Grand Tour would not exist in the form we all love without being on the BBC or the internet. Traditional cable stations are too forced in their formats (mainly commercial breaks) and it breaks the flow. Porter goes through a lot of it in his book.
