Like most other responses, mine is entirely down to money. I took the MSF course here in Ottawa and got my M2, but due to the my age, insurance is unfortunately a major stumbling block. I'm 23, and based on the estimates I've received so far, the best I can hope for is the same cost as my car each month. I could

GPS data loggers installed by car companies may not be a good idea, but personal units for archival sound like they might be. I built one a few months ago using an Arduino and I guess I should keep using it. Glad you got out of it OK!

I'm glad this comment won COTD. Great job! Cheers to Porsche for exploring all applications of a particular technology. Let's hope more companies follow suit!

Fair point. Not everyone can spend that kind of cash on a flashlight. I have an older SureFire in my glove box because I have a newer one I carry everywhere.

A good flashlight.

Best of luck, Ray! Thanks for building Jalopnik into one of the most vibrant automotive communities on the internet!

Interesting comment, and I totally agree with it.

Man, I'd love to drive a single rally stage, even at moderate speed. Alas, until I own a forest and an STI, I don't think it will happen!

If you have to ask about the price, you can't afford it.

Came here looking for this GIF.

Saw that boat at the Toronto Boat Show once, it was a sight to behold!

I can't imagine what the noise must be like in a convertible at those speeds.

I just hope that, like nearly every other man-made disaster, those in a position to make changes are able to do so to prevent a disaster of this scale from happening again.

I saw lashes on a Mazda Tribute the other day. Not sure if you can get those at auto shops, but they're ridiculous.

I have to say my 2010 Golf, which is the first car I am the primary driver and registered owner on. I bought it new, with 120km on it for delivery, and I'm at 39,000 km so far over almost 2 years. So far so good!

Great article, Matt. I lament the loss of the boxy, extremely useful shape of the previous Escape/Tribute, but this is clearly where Ford, and the rest of the market is heading. If you need to tow/haul anything of size, it looks like going up in size/power/gas is the only solution.

+1 for the Tribby. I like the utilitarian aspect of it, but I suppose it was inevitable that Ford changes it to what the market wants.

No doubt, but the contribution goes deeper than that. Lots of Canadian and British engineers left from the earlier space missions worked on the development of the Shuttle and it's many systems.

Now playing

Great comment! Your reward is this video of the product Fred has been working so hard on, the Turbo Encabulator.

There's no denying that it's a sad day for science and engineering to see these birds fly to their final place. The shuttles were a fantastic cooperation between nations, and as a Canadian, I'm proud that many of our top engineers have contributed to the US space program, going back as far as the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo
