Any increase in drivers education requirements is OK with me (applies to Canada as well as you folks down south).
@JalopJeff: And don't even bother driving on Steeles Ave at all!
+1 I was hoping someone would mention this.
Formula SAE: Where Jalops take root.
Hooning shall live on, despite gas prices! Also, here in Ottawa I've spent $58 filling up my Golf :(
Google says $2.22 USD/L (or $8.43/US gal) or $2.19 CAD/L. Yikes! Where do you live?
I'm 22 and bought my first car last year after securing my first full time job out of university. I was about to get a 2010 Golf with 12,000 km but instead got a good deal on a brand new Golf with 129km on it. And a manual. I'm a big fan of driving and think that regardless of your place in life, get a car that you…
Be happy most of you folks live in America. Here in Ottawa gas is $1.14/Litre and has been at these levels for some time. Since the dollar is essentially equal, that's $4.33/US gal.
I've really enjoyed the 325i and 328i I've been able to drive, and would absolutely love to one day own an M3, but ethically I can't spout for 12 months on the merits of the X6. If Jeremy Clarkson has a hard time finding an upside to the car, I think it'd be impossible for me.
@Xander Crews: I just came from SolidWorks World 2011 in Texas and they had some awesome stuff there. You'd be amazed what people can model and build inside a computer!
@My X-type is too a real Jaguar: Double rainbow all the way!
It's my first winter owning my first car, and I never thought twice about the expense. Driving with the snows in the winter means I can get more mileage out of the summer tires, and may eventually offset new rims and performance rubber.
@zekestone: I'll agree with that BMW part. My dad's 2006 325i and follow up 2009 328i were both terrible in the few short weeks between first snow fall and winter tire application.
I feel the need to defend some BMW drivers on this one. My dad, being near retirement age, decided to get a 2006 325i w/ 6MT because he wanted to bring the pleasure back to driving. He has succeeded with that, because he now drives a 2009 328i. My dad is definitely not a prick, however sometimes he drives in a way…
@boogie_bones: While my sample size is pretty small (1), the instantaneous fuel consumption metre on my 2010 VW Golf says it idles at 0.8 L/hour - 1.2 L/hour depending on how warm the car is. So with a full 55 L fuel tank, you're looking at 50 - 55 hours...
While in Germany a few years ago, I talked my dad into letting me behind the wheel of our rented A4 wagon, which eventually ended up on the autobahn at about 160km/h. That's probably the fastest I've driven, but the fastest car would I guess by my dad's 2009 328i or my 2010 Golf.
