Non-turbo rotaries are a lot more reliable than their boosted counterparts. Apex seals tend to go due to boost spikes more than anything else. I have seen 200 and even 400k non-turbo rotaries before. You just need to wind the piss out of them now and again to remove any carbon buildup.

I dont have all the answers but I honestly feel that this might be best for people in the long run. These huge stores generally stock a lot of stuff that people dont need in order to fill up floor space. The cost of floor space and the employees to man that gets fed into the price of the goods.
