This is a recent move by the EU to eliminate planned obsolescence and unrepairable garbage. The tech companies are fighting it tooth-and-nail.

Still have an S5 for this exact reason....I mean I’ve jailbroken it to run a newer OS but I’m really leery of giving up my right to just swap the fucking battery.

I feel like a lot of this line of thinking is cultural now that tech gadgets have become status symbols. There’s 350 MILLION people in just the US, so demand isn’t a problem for broken/stolen/upgraded phones. It’s all about 279 dollar stock prices, dividends, and CEO paychecks - no consumer-friendly models.

Right to repair needs to be a thing everywhere.
