I wish this comment were in the black!
I wish this comment were in the black!
I do want to have this conversation; discussing Kanye West on an Internet message board is not at all what I find unconscionable. I also don't think it's rude to dislike Kanye West or Kim Kardashian.
I definitely think people can dislike them for reasons other than racism.
I saw Paul McCartney last year too and I totally agree! He was so affable and energetic. On the other hand, Jeff Tweedy particularly rubs me the wrong way because he can be pretty rude to his audience. I'd rather listen to Kanye talk about racism (or, really, even how much he loves Kim Kardashian) than listen to Jeff…
Haha, I know. Not the best comparison. He's just a person I've more or less stopped listening to because he is so insufferable at concerts.
I love this comment.
I agree that those things are worthy of mockery. I don't think that talking about his experience with/of racism is worthy of mockery, though, and that is one thing that tabloids do fixate on and dismiss with coded language. I like that someone as prominent as Kanye is trying to talk about racism publicly, and I don't…
Well, I mean, I figured you weren't literally too busy lying next to your white significant other. Calling that internalized racism was out of line, sorry.
I get what you're saying, and I don't mean to imply that Kanye's an average black man. My point is more that because he is black in addition to "being Kanye," he gets a lot more criticism than a famous, self-absorbed white artist (Macklemore, anyone?) would.
From the article on Swift and Gyllenhaal:
I think this rampant speculation on Kim Kardashian's race or ethnicity is pretty telling about the racial attitudes in this thread.
I'm glad you give Kanye the benefit of the doubt. I'm really surprised at how many commenters cannot abide a black man discussing his experience of racism. It doesn't really matter if you like Kanye and Kim, or if you think they're stupid, or whatever: it's at best rude (I'd say unconscionable) to try to shut down a…
"America has rooted for other interracial relationships" sounds a lot like "But some of my best friends are black!" It doesn't invalidate what Kanye is saying; the pairing of Seal and Heidi Klum didn't eradicate racism.
"People who say the things he says and do the things he does tend to be mocked." Genuinely curious—which things, specifically, are you referencing?
A lot of self-absorbed artists do that, though. (Jeff Tweedy springs to mind.) Is it really that shocking or infuriating that an eccentric, egotistical musician talks a lot during his concerts? People are there to see him perform, and that's part of his performance. It's disingenuous to pretend that black men in the…
Hear, hear! What is wrong with the commenters who are doing that exact thing right now on this article?
Yeah, I know. I just think that's too cruel a word to throw around casually.
Ugh, you are so gross.
I'm refusing to look at the boot-leggings because I STILL HAVE SOME INTEGRITY, DAMN IT, but they sound like the things that figure skaters wear that are attached to the ice skates. Why is this a fashion thing now??
She's said that she's dated men and she's dated women and she cares about personality more than gender/sex. You should probably give up your Amber Heard fantasies anyway, though, because she is an unattainable Hollywood millionaire. Sorry. :(
