The one time i spoke up to the cops i ended up getting a torn bicep and beaten w/a baton. I was at an Orioles game and some young dudes a few rows in front of me and my friends were causing trouble. The cops were called, the young dudes ran off and me and my friends were still just sitting there and the cops came and

Yes, i agree. And they can just make stuff up. I had a state trooper follow me for 30 miles before finally pulling me over on my off ramp due to “not letting the blinker signal enough times”. He said i needed to let it go for 4 blinks and i did it for 3.

Yup. Of course, weed is legal in Massachusetts as well, so driving to CO to buy weed just to drive it all the way back to MA would be pretty stupid. Also, I don’t drink or smoke (either wacky tobaccy or the regular kind) and I wasn’t driving as though I was stoned.

But, yes, I think the trooper was hoping to find a

This is a terrible idea from a privacy perspective.

Mmm.. no. The traffic stop is a far too effective tool at catching criminals that would have otherwise slipped through the cracks.
Pro-tip for Serial Killers: if you have a literal body in the trunk, don’t drive around with a busted taillight, blow through stop signs or do anything but follow all rules of the road.

The “no insurance” one is what bothers me the most.

No, don’t raise speed limits 10mph.

This is one of the most idiotic articles ever posted on Jalopnik.

Now playing

I don’t think the tech is quite ready yet on automated ticketing via camera, but I also suspect a large part of the reason you see “mistakes” like this is not a bad AUC but a financial incentive for algorithms to be biased towards false positives and away from false negatives.

Oh come on.

I’ll go out on a limb here and be the racist (popular definition). If the police actually took drivers off road that don’t have a license, don’t have insurance and flee after crashing, I’d be good with it. There was a time when if I had any more run ins with these people and I wouldn’t have been able to afford my

Do you want police surveillance cameras everywhere?.....because that’s how you get police surveillance cameras everywhere.

Yeah, how about no. Speed cameras are BS.

The problem is there is no fix for this broken pipe, at least not yet. All we CAN do is tape it up until we CAN fix it. We can’t let people go homeless because they’re out of work (or can’t run their own businesses) because they’re being locked down.

Honestly, I don’t mind it at all. It’s better than some nondescript, graphite colored rectangular prism.

So many snowflakes in this thread.

“Haha it looks like *thing*!!~” is the always guaranteed, low-hanging, not so funny meme to come out of a presentation, but we gotta make due with something until we get the damn thing, I guess.

It’s not about disingenuity from those we know are acting in bad faith - it’s basic marketing. Defund, but replace with... what? Prioritize... what? In the top five of things that should be done with money from over-inflated and poorly used police budgets what’s the ranking structure? MAGA is bullshit (because the GA

Can we just say what we mean and NOT alienate a huge swath of the electorate right now? If you want to spend the next 6 months arguing with wipipo about what “defund the police” actually means, you do you, but I can think of more productive conversations to be had.

This is the very first place I’ve seen any advocate of “defunding” use it to actually mean “defunding” rather than “budgetarily decimate,” so it’s clearly not that clear. Hell, even the article linked to with “Yes! Yes! Yes!” doesn’t use “defund” to mean “defund.”
