I don’t want China’s regressive authoritarian controls determining what the rest of the world decides to produce. Let’s get a grip on this before Hollywood starts sending scripts to Beijing for production approval.

I would be more worried if the film failed because it was rejected by Chinese censors. Failing because it does not appeal to Chinese consumer tastes as well as American tastes isn’t as dire.

The idea a film’s success is prevalent on whether China approves of it or not is kind of horrifying to me. I realise that’s a rather simplistic assessment, but still.
