Not to mention featured robot characters that were visually incomprehensible.  There were so my little fittings and pistons and other moving parts that it seemed like any fight would bend something that rendered them unable to transform into anything.

This is why I will never even touch the game altogether. As polished as it obviously is, as much fun as people seem to be having with it, always online will forever be a deal-breaker in a genre I mainly enjoy as a single player experience with occasional co-op.

Back in the day my Internet connection was really flaky for a few months around the time I was playing D2. Even without perma-death it was very frustrating because my online character stagnated at one point where I had reached an equilibrium between gaining new XP and losing it from dying due to the game freezing…

Absolutely 100% why I would never play a permadeath game that requires an internet connection. Fuck that.
