Very interesting analysis, thank you.
Very interesting analysis, thank you.
That’s one of my criticisms of the movie. Novel!Jack is a decent guy in the beginning (albeit a recovering alcoholic very much struggling to stay dry). He didn’t sit there in the car glowering like an obvious psycho like Nicholson did. Jack’s descent into insanity is supposed to be a tragedy—the hotel finds his weak…
There’s an insane amount of misogyny in discussions of her performance in The Shining. (Which is appropriate considering how misogynistic King’s early works are, whether or not he can admit it.) People saying things like “I was rooting for Jack” and “I wanted to kill her as well.” Like, do you say that to all battered…
He probably thinks he’s gonna burn in whatever the equivalent of hell is for all eternity.
PLEASE STOP WITH THE SPOILERS.
I absolutely bawled when Viserion was killed in GoT. My friends were trying to console me and I said “It’s an endangered species, and now one of them is dead.” So I get it. It’s horrifying to watch, CGI or no.
He still got a little bit of it left.
Good Lord. They’re fun recaps for those who know the TV series(es) reasonably well but haven’t memorized the books. Unclench.
a much more sympathetic and three-dimensional character than the two I mentioned above
Just finished it. Absolutely loved it. The final scene between Rhaenyra and Alicent was as good as anything ever written in GoT. Good writing, good directing and fantastic acting.
The 6th movie was beautiful as well (if under-written—they left out all that wonderful Gaunt backstory). The segue from Hermione sobbing in Gryffindor Tower to her setting the birds on Ron to the passing exterior shot of Ron and Lavender kissing on the stairs and ending with Draco brooding is just brilliant, IMO. And…
Right, I was thinking “that’s a heck of a security risk, identical twins on opposite sides with close access to the monarch.”
I describe libertarians as “Republicans who realize homophobia isn’t cool anymore.”
Oh yea, he’s great. And the depiction of his and Ellen’s marriage in the movie is awesome, a true, drama-free, mutually respectful partnership of two middle-aged people, which isn’t that common.
It would’ve been poignant indeed. But I have to say I love Hooper’s personality makeover and his intelligence at scooting out of the cage and hiding in the sea bed. One of my favorite parts of the movie. I did enjoy the novel (WTH, I was just a kid of 10 when I read it and I was all agog “Is this really how grownups…
Hooper as an easy-going, very likeable guy in the movie
Snyder is absolutely despised in the DC area. I grew up inside the Beltway and there a very few things that bring us all together—the Metro system, the Beltway and the Redskins (now Commanders—I get that they had to change the name but that sucks). Hating Snyder (there are other reasons besides his mismanagement of…
Long before Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) beloved dragons burnt King’s Landing...
Johnny’s last act in the original movie is riveting. When Kreese tells him to sweep the leg and he just looks up at him incredulously...and I love his class in giving the trophy to Danny himself. It’s a great starting point for Kobra Kai. I really prefer nuanced bad guys which is why I’m happy they finally turned…
When the oldest kid (after getting yelled at) asks “Should I pray for Daddy?” that’s usually when I start losing it. (I want to call him Peter, after the oldest Cratchit kid. There are many parallels between IaWL and A Christmas Carol, most importantly that both protagonists have a chance to see an alternate future.) …
