See, now here is how you do weird and depressing!

That actually seems pretty reasonable, IMO. It’s negligent homicide, so no malice of forethought, but 3-4 months is too lenient. The better punishment would be to take away their surviving children so that it doesn't happen again. Of course, I know that will never happen, but it would be nice to see someone protect

Stopped making sense.

Honestly, I was born and raised in South Florida, and my family dog once suffered the same fate as that 2 year old (he got away from my mom, ran for a quick wade in the pond and was taken) and I was STILL surprised to find that there were alligators near that beach in the Seven Seas Lagoon. They had it set up as a

I sort of had a similar reaction. I like seeing pics of nice things, but that shit just made me want to burn everything down. Things that are so perfect and look like a museum give me an irrational need to just destroy. I know, I'm seeking help

I’m a crazy dog person through and through, but I think treating this as somehow different than the way Western countries torture the animals we raise and slaughter for food is self-serving at best.

Counterpoint: Fuck that guy.

I am very hurt by comments that it is the family’s fault for letting their child get too close to the water. Parents can turn their back on their child for seconds and something like this could happen. My little brother died because my mom left my 6 year old brother in the backyard for a few minutes to make him lunch.

Every dad ever... literally.

Hot take #2 for today: I am kind of glad that I don’t get the whole Girl Scout Cookies thing. Like, they’re just box cookies, you guys. The grocery store has them ALL THE TIME.

Oh, yes, absolutely. If there's no crowding or impaction (or potential for such), there's no reason to do it.

The owners are dog breeders. Good luck in whichever animal shelter you end up in, sweet puppies. Here’s hoping they’re no kill shelters, which is highly unlikely. And good luck to Bailey, who might face another high risk pregnancy so that her humans can make cash.

They should make them shuck the oysters along with eating them. That would add an element of danger other than the risk of puking.

I’ve had chickens. I eat chicken. As for chickens being intelligent...I’ve worked with a lot of chickens and I’d have to disagree with you. It’s like when people say chickens are vegetarians. No they aren’t. They eat what they can catch, up to and including each other.

This is the problem with people who put animals on the same level as fellow humans (or romantically view them as somehow “purer” or “better” than us) - I love animals, but the safety of a child will always come before them, and yes, this includes my own pets.

I was thinking about that. A reassuring hug from the gorilla probably would have broken every rib and could have fatally crushed him. I don’t understand why trying to understand the gorilla serves any purpose, other than to muddy the waters and focus blame.

No charges?!? God I hope his ex-wife sues for total custody and wrongful death. Fuck that idiot leaving a loaded gun out. Fuck him.

She has a Bakersfield face at best.
