I used to think he was a damaged individual who may not have necessarily molested children but wanted a very inappropriate level of intimacy with them (which is not that much better) but now...ick.
I have to wonder how many who knew actually cared. A father of two once told me, “Thriller was awesome. We lost something really special when he died. I don’t care that he touched kids, nobody’s perfect.” I died a little bit when I heard him say that... :(
To be fair there’s “not perfect” and there’s “has sexually explicit pictures of animal sacrifice.”
I always knew Michael Jackson would be in the Greys on Jezebel.
*unsurprised*
So I was browsing profiles on a dating site and came across one with an interesting picture. This woman made the focus of the image her armpit. Like, it was taking up most of the image.
She’s a human woman Aimee! With armpits. It’s the lighting probably! She isn’t an alien that looks similar to you, sorry US humans with subtle differences like a lack of armpits or salivary glands who mostly eats tree frogs for sustenance. What? That would be INSANE. Let’s talk about how completely normal her speech…
She could have a hedgehog under them thangs and still look lovely.
I also understand the concern of harsher sentences for minorities, but this already happens. This one case isn’t suddenly going to activate harsher sentences on minorities, because they’re already being fucked over by the system.
It isn’t just rapists (ie, what one is accused of). POC, the poor, men in custody cases, and women all receive bias at the hands of judges. We give complete judicial discretion but no oversight. Even when someone complains, it’s other judges watching the henhouse. I’m not at all for mandatory sentences, but maybe…
This scene is a national treasure and should be in the Smithsonian.
The other thing causing outrage is that the case being sentenced right before this one was a domestic violence case where Persky sentenced the abuser to a literal weekend in jail
“Good analysis. However, as the article pointed out, it isn’t so much the lenient sentence that got this guy in hot water, it was his statements expressing sympathy for the rapist and almost ZERO for the victim.”
Exactly. He can point to his 13 years of other decisions and say “see, I’m a good and responsible judge” and we can say “see, this is why we have a point, because if you’re the example of a good and reasonable judge, THESE assumptions about rape and punishment are what need to change with the culture at large.”
Good analysis. However, as the article pointed out, it isn’t so much the lenient sentence that got this guy in hot water, it was his statements expressing sympathy for the rapist and almost ZERO for the victim. His mentality on this issue is what clearly makes him unfit to sit on these types of cases. And if he has to…
I don’t think we should focus on Persky (or Turner, for that matter) to the exclusion of everything else, but in the same way Persky’s sentence sent a strong message to rapists everywhere (“Don’t worry, white boys, even if you are caught in the act of raping an unconscious person by multiple witness, the justice…
Taylor Lautner. “Back to December” is supposedly about him.
I like the Hiddles but I wasn’t impressed by the choice in not so tighty whities and the same blue suit he trots out everywhere. He’s getting so desperate in his attempts to secure Bond.
