Earthquakes and tornadoes are largely unpredictable and kind of unavoidable though. Beachfront issues are both predictable and pretty avoidable. I’d rather the risk comparison be beachfront to cliffside home than, say, implying that no one living in California or Oklahoma deserves empathy if a natural disaster strikes.

Why do so many drivers aim the side-view mirrors right down the side of the vehicle, instead of angled outwards to actually SEE the blind spots? I mean, you’ve got your main rear-view mirror there to watch directly behind you, the side mirrors are supposed to let you see to either side. Worse, far too many drivers…

I never thought about that. That’s a really good point. Never had a car with that screen orientation, though.
