My parents gave both my sister and I solid “first name middle name” stage names. My brother, the only one of us who could be considered a well-known public figure, is the only one stuck with a decidedly blasé and not catchy name to work with.

One of us is misinterpreting the article. I took it that the son is living elsewhere and the mother chose instead to take in the wife. I.e. She did exactly what you’re accusing her of not doing.
