I’d nominate his confrontation with the Fisher King in “Before the Flood”.

I believe it’s Jezebel Jet, from Grant Morrison’s Batman run. A reasonably deep cut, even for TTG.
That’s what I’m assuming, until I hear otherwise. Seems insanely callous. Can’t imagine the X-Men will be happy with the rest of the heroes at the end of this (or ever again)...if there are any left...
I haven’t been following this “terrigen mist cloud” metaplot too closely, but...are the heroes of Earth really cool with this deadly cloud just wafting over the earth? How is this not a massive crisis? And if it’s a choice between the sterilization and death of every mutant and the inhumans not being able to manifest…
Hot Fuzz is my favorite Cornetto film, and one of my favorite films of all time, but I feel like The World’s End is probably the better film. I feel like it has much more to say, and says it with a level of storytelling craft which Wright had been evolving through all of his other films. Plus, the action sequences are…
They seem, for the most part, to only be offering the first volume of a series, or sometimes only the first issue (although Hellboy has the first three volumes free). Still a cool idea, with tastes of a lot of cool titles, but I’m sad they’re only making the first few issues free (although I also get why they’d do…
But then we’ll miss your wonderful, productive comments.
Been following you since Topless Robot, and io9 since it launched, and I’m certainly not going to abandon either of you now. I may not always agree with you, but you’re one of the most genuine and passionate nerd bloggers I’ve ever followed, and I know you’ll do a great job.
I originally thought the same, but I feel like it’s easier to frame comic shots so you never see his eyes than it is to shoot a TV series like that. Not impossible, just more difficult than it was probably worth to them.
It’s been an absolute pleasure. Thank you for everything you did to make io9 so great. I look forward to seeing what you do next.
I’d argue it’s emblematic of how many problems Civil War had that it doesn’t really HAVE a legacy, at least in the comics themselves. Marvel had all but erased all the effects of it only a few years later (except for killing Goliath, I think he’s still dead) when they brought Steve back. The SRA was repealed following…
My first thought was “Oh, that’s an interesting take on Scorpina. Neat!” And then I remembered that she’s playing Rita Repulsa...
As someone who enjoyed Man of Steel and greatly disliked Batman v. Superman, I just wanted to say thank you for articulating the differences between the films far better than I ever could.
I think this is probably the best way to go with it honestly. To be a completely serious fantasy would be to invite every comparison to Tolkein (appropriate, how much LotR there is in the lifeblood of D&D), but a lot of the best D&D-esque stories to come out over the last few years have been light-hearted,…
Isn’t that part of Galactus’s deal too? That at some point he’s destined to give back to the universe infinitely more than he has taken? It’d be cool if this is that finally coming to fruition.
Nice!
No mention of Heroes Reborn on Thursday? Simple oversight or damning condemnation? I wouldn’t be too broken up about either, but I’ll probably be tuning in for nostalgia’s sake.
In case anyone was wondering, the song in that video was “Thousand Eyes” by Of Monsters and Men.
I think Civil War brought up some interesting philosophical ideas, as you’ve mentioned in your article, and I believe that in the right hands it could totally work...but not in the Marvel or DC universes. There’s just too much bullshit in those universes to be able to take a CW scenario seriously.
I always really liked The Pride as villains. They did legitimately love their own kids, and wanted to them to live happily in the new Eden the Gibborim would create. Everyone else’s kids? Every other couple in the Pride? They’d murder them in cold blood without a moment’s hesitation. An excellent mix of concerned…
