when SM & the Jicks are good, they're really good. But SM's first self titled album remains my favourite post-Pavement thing. i love that one.

No it was kind of a mutual thing really. One of those terribly sad no one's at fault, we still love each other but various difficult problems are making it impossible to live together any more situations. The biggest regret of my life, though, still.

Thanks, that's really interesting. I hope I wasn't saying anything offensive - I can totally see that the 'always knew' model won't apply to everyone. I think maybe people (in general) like that narrative because it goes against those who would say 'it's a choice' or 'it's a phase' or 'it's a mental illness' so maybe

What a lovely obituary. RIP. I feel like watching some of her films now thanks to these beautiful descriptions - been a few years since I saw any Ozu. Also, have never seen Millennium Actress and been meaning to seek it out, so now seems like a good time.

Aw bless you, that's very kind. But tbh I wish we had never broken up and I'm deperately sad about losing him. He is a great person and I really miss him. I think that's why I haven't aimed to find another permanent place to live, settle anywhere etc - I'm too sad about losing my previous life.

would be great if it was Thor and Loki vs Hulk actually. Brotherly togetherness at last! And get rid of Jane Foster altogether and get Black Widow in again to have another charismatic confrontation with Loki.

I'd second Rome and add Carnivale, in excllent HBO two-season shows box-sets.

The human population would be fine without factory farms, it just needs to drastically cut meat consumption. It's not something that can be ignored any longer in terms of the effect it has on climate change - this has to happen.

You're not telling me anything I don't already know! I'm pathetic.

In some cases they just seem to make each season 100 episodes long, for some reason, but they do seem to constantly be making new ones.

Yeah, I have to watch this for work; I've not seen every episode but those I have seen have always been pretty good. Riley and Maya and Farkle and Lucas make a pretty good central quartet of characters, and I think they get the nostalgia right - bringing back characters like Cory's brother and Mr Feeny etc is always

If they ever bring it to UK Netflix (lol yeah right) I'm sure I'll give it a go - it is wrong of me to assume I won't like it without trying.

I know, (I'm in the UK but I expect they are cheap here too.) But I don't have a TV, I just watch stuff on my laptop. There is a Blu-ray player in my college library but the last three times I've had check discs in that format it's refused to play them. I can't imagine ever being able to afford a place with a separate

Me! I like it! Like Just Matt below I saw it when it came out and don't remember much about it, but the overall atmosphere made an impression on me.

Yeah I gotta remember they might save some stuff and not put it all in the first trailer!

true. but it was still lame

It could happen now!

I like the cinema experience - I'm kind of addicted to actually going, all the stuff about sitting in the dark, the big screen, it's very comforting. And since I moved out of London to a small town, the choice of what's on is much more limited, but on the flip side it's much much cheaper, and the cinema is 100 yards

He's brilliant in Goodbye Lenin, A Most Wanted Man, and Rush too. He also had a small part in Bourne Ultimatum. And if you can bear it, he's great in The Fifth Estate. I can't in all conscience reommend The Face of an Angel, but again, he's really good in it.

omg, I love him, that would be great.
