Thanks for the great essay Jesse, it’s inspired me to revisit (or simply start, can’t pretend I’ve seen every single release) his output this decade. This will be a great companion for it. His movies just stick to me, heck Criterion's edition of The New World is the last physical film I've bought.

Lucy Dacus is so fucking good. I don’t connect with all of her work -which is fine! - but enjoy the artistry behind each song. Her song for New Year’s is particularly great.

“Good news for anyone who didn’t consider “six seasons” to be a sufficient amount of time to spend watching people stare at each other ominously while brandishing axes”

Feral cats murder the heck out of migratory birds.

All but confirming that Spanfeller and Mainment see themselves as the heroes in the story, martyred for taking a stand. Sick.

Biggest bunch of babies in the world. Mewling.

Candy corn in the top ten?!!!

They don’t, at all. That’s the key. At best Spansmeller and Co want to completely redo the site with bland Maven-style content monkeys, at worst they want to write it off while paying the least as they wait. Both involve them getting rid of anyone with a spine or a soul, not to mention talent.

Love Point RB. Their kiddie cocktail/elevated cherry 7up is darn tasty too.

I adored saving found shopping lists at work. Beyond the practical import (what isn’t crossed off = what we were out of stock on), there was a simple voyeur pleasure of getting a small insight into a random customer. Sometimes you would find reminder notes to call a family member, chastising from the writer to the

DUIs and jail time? My friend, you’ve never been to Wisconsin, have you.

Rhea Seehorn for Better Call Saul. Masterful over the past three seasons with an immense character arc and a true unknown on the show. Time to finally win it after just being nominated.

Thanks for this excellent article Lauren, I’ve been in mourning all day. Despite a season of struggles and a small chance to make any *real* noise I’ve been following the Crew every night - largely for the overall enjoyment that Burneko expressed so well in his piece a couple of days ago.

Serial had an interesting episode on city settlement offers and how frequently the offers are lowballs. The offers rely on strapped finances, poor representation and a long court process to get accepted even when a victim has a great case.

I managed a pretty big natural grocery store, and like clockwork I would be called every couple of months to the customer service desk to take a complaint from a customer about our meat and seafood section being next to the produce department. Now and then for complaints when the butchers were cooking bacon for

I would get kicked off of Nextdoor so damn fast, but I love the concept. This twitter account is going to scratch an unknown itch, ty ty.

I was haphazardly referring to air dates, not narrative time.

Oh, good call back. It's been forgotten but that was a delightfully bizarre movie. And she was excellent in it.

First appearance of the famed shitty player that Deadspin’s article about their new bosses was talking about?
