Purple thread time! I think it’s a good addition to BMW’s respectable repertoire of purples and violets. Especially in the 90's, they went purple-crazy. They have Techno Violet, then there’s Daytona Voilet:

“...walk inside a Toyota dealer and ask to test drive a Supra, you’re not going to be disappointed.”

True. That’s how BMW built Z cars for a long time too. It seems though that MB doesn’t care about the SLC. Isn’t it still based on previous-gen C-class?

The SLC should come back for another generation. Maybe MB can partner up with another manufacturer to make the costs feasible. Maybe they can call up Toyota to borrow their Supra platform and adapt it to be a roadster.

God, they really need a China-exclusive fascia spec. Von Hooydonk(?) Already admitted that the huge kidneys on the x7 and 7 facelift are for China and other “developing markets”, where customers want “high impact” brand-recognizable looks. The cynic in me reads that statement as “Chinese customers want gaudy,

Thanks for the nostalgia trip, buddy! I remember lusting after that set in the catalogs. I never ended up getting that one, but I did have a motorcycle of the same vintage:

If anyone is interested in Le Quément's work, or car design in general, he’s got a new book out: “Design: Between the Lines”. It’s a really interesting look at his design journey and his unique perspective.

Not a long way to go until the full Mad Max:

Unless you're Jay Leno.

Good points there. I’ll give you the side air scoops. I’ll also say the top-exit exhaust is fair game at this point, as many modern supercars have done this. But I’ll have to push back on the spoiler. The 1000 has a small wing nestled between the fenders:

I saw one a few weeks ago towing a trailer. Loves seeing the thing being used as an SUV!

I’m thinkin’ ID3 Harlequin!

I initially wanted to say “no harm” to the DeTomaso. But after looking at DeTomaso’s alleged inspiration, I’m not so sure. It’s just that the P72 doesn’t seem to take any meaningful cues from the 3 cars they cited. Let’s look at the 1000, 2000, and P70.

New german cars will ruin you. Old german cars will work for you and give you joy. There’s no black magic with old German cars _ they’re well built and by today’s standards mechanically simple. I can only speak to BMW’s, and so can Jalopnik when they'e not taking lazy potshots. They drove an old Bavaria across the

None of those are the M6. The 2019 M6GC was up on the BMW configurator with a manual option literally a few weeks ago. Now it looks like they took the M6GC off the site altogether.

I want to be able to say this, but man, that CF panel looks so tacked-on and awkward I think I prefer the fake vent. Maybe if the cover was painted...

BMW has been one of the last holdouts offering manual transmissions on their cars, and they didn’t only put them in base models. You can get a 2019 M6 Gran Coupe with a manual. You could get F10 V8 5 series with manual. While it sucks to see the new 3 series lose the manual, Mercedes and Audi have given it up
