I read an interesting article a few years back regarding styling and how most cars look the same. It argued that aerodynamics drivers much of it (they've figured out what shape is the most aerodynamic), and also consumer preference to some extent (most people don't like weird looking vehicles).

So, who ever is currently in charge of Chevrolet’s design team (I suspect Michael bay) needs to be fired and has no business doing this.

Yes my ‘64 Corvair is fully optioned with backup lights. The bottom level ‘500' spec had aluminum ‘pie plate’ blanking discs. Naturally they have now become the in accessory! Backup lights were federally mandated starting in 1966.

This was also true in the US at one point. The owner's manual for my Galaxie advertised backup lamps as an optional feature. 

“Sub-branding the Corvette would be okay if the model line consisted entirely of sports cars. An electric Corvette CUV would be a travesty.”
