Backdrag is a huge thing for ratchets.  Also newer ones typically have higher tooth counts that require less swing in tight spaces to turn a fastener.  I just upgraded from 36t ratchets to 90t and there is much less “slop” when using them.  There is also less play in the drive end than the old ones but that can be…
