They keep printing this stuff faster than I can read it

And here I am, feeling like a hot shot bc I decided to spoil myself with $3.99 Kombucha. Ugh

It’s a weird idea for people who don’t have much, but wealth & affluence correspond pretty weakly with actual happiness. People who are self made millionaires tend to be somewhat happy because they’ve worked hard to get there and they’re doing what they like, but their spoiled kids are just looking for a way to buy

It didn’t, though. At least, if you compare it’s numbers to Star Trek Beyond’s, they're very similar yet Trek isn't being considered a flop.

There is a difference between creating art and creating a commodity; that difference is the fulfillment of consumers needs and wants. this is why there is a difference between the fine arts and illustration...

Wouldn’t a “Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them” version make more sense?

It’s a mix but from the sounds of it Rowling came up with the story while the others converted it to a playscript format.

The temperatures outside where I live are routinely hitting levels where the local authorities will outright encouraged you to stay inside, and have been bouncing around there since around when Pokemon GO got released. Don’t go calling people fat and lazy for concluding that venturing out in their local weather

No, and I don’t think that this item “doesn’t count,” since obviously Rowling is deeply involved. But I think that what people loved about the Harry Potter books was a combination of Rowling’s writing, the type of presentation (long, but easy reads), and the story and characters. This book doesn’t contain Rowling’s

Yeah, she’s done things like this. I disagree with some of her political choices (she gave 1 million pounds to the ‘No’ campaign on the Scottish Independence Referendum, for instance) but she’s put her money to work on some very good causes:

I’m frankly astonished at the reception this printed script is getting, because SHE DIDN’T WRITE THE DARN THING! She just collaborated on the “story” but the script is by someone else completely. You really and truly are paying full price for (author-approved) fan-fiction if you buy this book.

Considering the amount of libertarians and anarchists I know, I do not think you’re right. In fact most libertarians I know don’t like the book. I know I don’t. Rand’s prose isn’t bad but she needed an editor as bad as GRRM did last go around.

I love that you think someone giving their opinion is fantastic, but someone offering their opinion in opposition is intolerant fascism.

It’s not libertarian, it’s Objectivist. Libertarians are fine with altruistic behavior, while Rand said it was evil. And Rand was an atheist, while libertarians don’t really care what you believe, as long as you don’t literally force it on others.

One of my writing students turned in a 20-page knock off of that monologue. And didn’t understand why his classmates didn’t have an orgasm in their pants upon reading it.

It’s probably because Atlas Shrugged is a trashy page-turner, couched in psuedo-intellectualism. Hell, even John Scalzi who ripped it an epic new one admits that he enjoys it and rereads it every few years.

I know, right? I might have been a little more excited for this but the whole American back story for Fantastical Beasts has just really put me off newRowling stuff these days.

Weird to have a “New Harry Potter ‘Book’” again, even weirder that I didn’t pre-order it, won’t have it first thing tomorrow, and won’t binge read it in a day.
