Amen to all of that. Compelling radio. Very smart guy. But he’s a liberal opportunist who uses the fact that his voice is professionally modulated and callers are on a 64kb phone line (if lucky) to sound like he has the moral high ground and to stifle debate. And everyone in that station HATES him - you can hear it in…
You’ve been assessed two minutes for trippin’. Bernstein is shrill and sanctimonious but it works and garners ratings and so on it goes. I listen, I enjoy it, but I don’t respect him as a person.
Jameis Winston broke only the laws of good taste when he jumped on a table in a public area and shouted profanities. He was suspended for one game. His conduct off the field reflects on the team. Therefore the team can enforce rules on and off the field.
I see. If your Google machine is working, take a look at all of the suspensions for off field activities over the last, say, 12 months, and get back to me.
I meant only that one is not given a right to play college football. Yes, they were recruited, and yes, they play for the aggrandizement of the university without any meaningful remuneration (I won’t trot out the “they get a free education” line because I don’t believe that is enough.) Different issue. I’m just saying…
Really? He’s the boss and the kids who play for him do so because they are privileged not because they are entitled. If they don’t like the rule, they can transfer or do something else with their lives. Social media gets these kids in trouble and can harm the program. I applaud the ban - it should be NCAA-wide.
Why is Oklahoma State playing the Redskins?
Good points. However, even when given all of the data (and as you point out, probably steered in a particular direction by staffers) one person owns the decision. The CEO. That’s what you pay for. Figurehead is a tough word - I watch our CEO (Dow 30 company) from close up (I’m two reports away) in pressure situations…
What follows is a comment destined to remain in Gray Obscurity because it does not fit the Gawker progressive/socialist narrative:
“November Charlie Five Two Four, position and hold runway 1. Traffic at your 6 o’clock is a house.”
I feel bad for this kid. I can’t see his facial expression to tell if he’s scared or bored or suffering from some other condition that keeps him from engaging. Clearly the league requires that everyone play - at that age, a sensible rule. But it shouldn’t take the coach over a minute to react and direct him.
“Beat Down?” We had a nice interaction where facts were exchanged politely. I feel neither beaten nor down. I hope your day improves.
You make many fair points, thanks for replying. I guess my only retort is that the companies that sell themselves to private equity ought to know what they are getting into.
“That CVC wants out really isn’t surprising at all. Private equity firms actually operate on a pretty simple business model, one that is ingenuous and also a bit ethically dubious.”
