Except the quotes in this report are not direct quotes but what some anonymous source said what they said privately. Re-read them and pay attention to the parts after the quotes, behind commas. “According to an anonymous source” is written all over this report and attached to half of the quotes.

I noticed the WaPo report is effectively, an anonymous source said that this is what O’Brennan and Clapper said in an internal memo. They are quoting both individuals but the source of the quote is completely anonymous and not a direct quote from either of them. Why don’t they have them say those exact same words…
