Facebook could EASILY prevent this in the future by adding a "dislike" option for status updates and photos. People "like" sad things as a way to let a friend know, "I saw this and I'm thinking of you" not because they actually like it. A "dislike" option would be very helpful for both expressing our true emotions…

Aren't we used to the idea that Facebook is a bunch of heartless trolls who hide behind the inability of the algorithm to excuse their own lack of compassion? I'm still getting offers to 'friend' a friend who died five years ago because there's no way for his family to delete the account.
