A stock Type 3 will always feel better with a full tank of gas...that's a given. Tire pressure and front end maintenance are two additional keys to getting the correct ride on a Type 3. These cars are very twitchy with over-inflated tires, less than a half of a tank of gas and a poorly maintained front beam.
