I personally still fundamentally dislike how the game feels and plays, but yes as of even last year, they hit that mark. Multiplayer is actually real, meaningful space combat is real, and there are more sandbox and story objectives. On top of that there’s base building and now larger settlement building, presumably…

It has been for some time. Did they overshoot and make some claims they shouldn’t have, absolutely. Did they work hard to figure out how to turn the ship around, yes. And for people who gave them the time and space to do that, welp *gestures at current game*. It’s lovely and so much fun.

My work at my next outlet will be more industry- and business-focused and less about playing games and writing about them, so I don’t think the FF retrospective can continue there. But I do have dreams of writing a book about Final Fantasy one day. We’ll see!
