Nope. The problem is native people were ignored during past projects, so they’ve grown resentful over the years of having their input sidelined. Also, isn’t this the story for pretty much all Doctor Who episodes? The show’s ratings in the U.K. have always been middling, but the show survives because it is one of BBC’s biggest exports. (After Top Gear, from what I understand.)
The Xmas special may have worked as commentary on superhero mythology, but it really didn’t work as a Doctor Who episode.
In a way I understand that part. In a moment of desperation, Pratt’s character makes a really terrible decision. The problem is the filmmakers never explore the consequences of that decision and just write it off as a silly stunt Lawrence has to overcome on her way to loving Pratt.
