The trailers don’t really suggest that. The script was floating around the web for a few years before it got picked up, so some people knew ahead of time. And, ironically, they were pointing out the same problem even back then. (Although, from what I’m told, the original script handled it much better.)

And people generally won’t. Someone pointed out to me earlier today that “hostage fantasies” are pretty common in romance fiction, so a lot of women won’t necessarily see his actions as bad. Of course the hostage taker is always a hunk in such fiction, when in real life they would probably be the last person anyone

Yeah, the problem isn’t the premise. It could have made for a great story, although one a bit darker than what we got. The problem is the filmmakers don’t have the guts to explore the real consequences of Pratt’s actions. They wanted to make a rom-com when the “twist” calls for a psychological drama.

I’ll probably skip it. Time travel shows set in the present day are the laziest take on the subject. If you are going to use time travel, take me to the past or the future. Just don’t have a bunch of people walking around saying “I’M FROM THE FUTURE!”

That was surprisingly hilarious. We need more movie trailers like this.

I found the first season had some interesting themes and fun world-building, but it was rather poorly paced. (And the over-the-top bounty hunter introduced in the first half of the season was out of place for the show’s tone, but they dropped him pretty quickly.) I’m hoping this season builds on the strengths and not

It has a good start, but then goes off into crazy Lovecraft territory and ends with an obvious setup for a sequel. If you could take the first two-thirds of the novel and tack on a completely different third act, you might have the makings of a decent film.

But what message is it sending when a bunch of punk, low-income kids are fighting a job creator like Rita Repulsa? Stupid Hollywood liberals.

Liberal Hollywood propaganda at its worst:

Just to be clear: That doesn’t mean you can’t criticize a movie for its politics. I just get annoyed at people who insist entertainment must be apolitical.

The quickest way for me to lose interest in an argument about movies/books is for the other person to insist politics be kept out of his/her entertainment. Fine. Go watch Power Rangers, then. The rest of us can be grown-ups about it. (Although, to be honest, what the person usually means is “I don’t want politics in

I come from coal country and have a lot of friends/family who think Trump is going to bring back coal and get them all jobs. I keep trying to explain that 1) coal isn’t coming back and 2) neither are the jobs. What they are facing is the loss of government benefits many of them need to keep their heads above water.

Hackett pointed out that the question of what reality would be better or worse depends heavily on who you are, which is obviously a central question of the show.

Question: How many articles does i09 run about Star Wars compared to those about works of original science fiction? Since Charlie Jane left, the latter seems to has disappeared almost completely. You’re not exactly in a position to complain about companies commercializing the franchise to bring in easy cash.

R.I.P. Agents of Shield. This has “replacement show” written all over it — as in “AoS isn’t working, so let’s try another Marvel property.”

The thing is, AoS honestly is my favorite comic book show on TV right now. I think it finds a nice balance between the sillier aspects of the CW shows and the dead-serious tone of

“When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie!”

I’m guessing the death ray was aimed at Universal Studios Orlando.

“It is as if thousands of tourists suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”

Most immediate effect of this finding: Nicholas Cage cancels his scuba diving vacation.

I’ve already made peace with my decline into Angry Old Man status. I practice yelling at clouds everyday, just to perfect the role.

Some serious poop, then.
