In the desperate search for IP, I’ve always thought this franchise was ripe to be redone. The idea is fantastic and overcomes the issues in execution. It gets significantly better in season 2. There are still a few offshoots that leave you scratching your head - the multi-episode arc about a blustery tiny frog man general comes to mind - but man there’s some great stuff too.

Honestly, that guy doesn’t look that old. You can have a white beard at 50. And in terms of Captain Rex’s age, you could plausibly say the aging process acceleration was short-circuited when his chip was removed. He aged quickly to that point then normal speed after.

The problem, in my opinion, with the Hobbit movies wasn’t that there were three of them - although I think two would have been the right number - it’s that they miss so many of the things that were good about the original story were ignored.
