Spending the months leading up to Joker’s release anticipating how bad it will be and then putting it on the worst of the year list for not living down to your expectations is pretty much Peak 2019 AV Club.

The sheer degree of Watchman knob-polishing on avclub is unreal, given how uninspired and hacky it all really is.

I don’t get this idea that a 30 hour experience isn’t worth $60 when people regularly spend $20 on a 2 hour movie.

I don’t think Joker and the Snyder DC movies exist on the same continuum of “gritty.” I’ve heard from several people who are decidedly not incel-types and who also have zero interest in comic book movies of any kind who very much enjoyed Joker. The Joker-as-bespoke-text-of-incels take felt very faddish to me.
