I agree. People were down on it because of the mostly linear first 10-20 hours, which is undedstandable to a degree, but I still really liked it. Had a gorgeous setting that was spectacular to watch at the time and the combat system was awesome.

You can do the “not slowing down” thing in Origins too, you jus have to work at it a little bit and get the timing right. But that definitely made me happy too when I figured out how.

I just did this as well. And it was mostly because of that darn ‘Return to Yharnam’ weekend a while back. The game was all, “Come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs...” Cut to a month later and myriad hours wasted. Long story short, I finally platinum’d the game. Fast travel is unlocked in the last third of the game, so it does have it, just not from the beginning. Also, DSII is so much better than a lot of people give it credit for.
