I don't really use Jung for anything other than his theory of archetypes but holy god his theory of archetypes is solid gold. If nothing else they're really nice to just pull from for character tropes. So if nothing else, thank you Carl Jung for your contribution to fiction.

I remember the 'special' class of children when i was back in elementary school. These were kids whose parents were on the PTA and essentially ran a racketeering mob so forceful that they essentially ran school policy. This in turn meant that their children could, and did, get away with everything.

What I really love about Dahl, and this really stems from his own personal history being severely abused and neglected as a child, is that his characters really tapped into exactly how dark and lonely childhood could really be.
