WagonLovers In A Dangerous Time

I found a 996TT on Autotrader. Connected with the seller, an older guy in Little Rock, Ark — about 12-hour drive from me. In the span of about 3 days, a local Porsche shop did the PPI, we agreed on a price and I was flying to Arkansas on a one-way ticket with a cashier’s check in my bag.

First car I ever fell in love with was my dad’s 3.0CS. I loved the shape, the thin wooden steering wheel, the leather, the smell...everything. At 4 years old, I asked for it as a wedding gift. I’m 34 now. And am lucky enough to still be able to “borrow” it whenever the forecast looks good.

You practice simulated engine failures a lot in these little planes. Scary, sure. But not that difficult if you have a place to land. The outrage seems to be about hitting a rock and dinging the plane.

I drive a two’ish seater (996 Turbo) and my wife drives the “family” car (JCW Clubman). So I understand the need for a car that can fit humans, but we certainly don’t need two of them. And for trips to Lowes, an older 3-series wagon (w manual) is the perfect “work truck.”

Finish taking my dash apart, and then putting it back together.

115k miles. Pretty good price from seller’s perspective, I think. I picked up a one-owner, stock, with 55k miles for mid-30s this summer.

You’re right. I think 997 prices have come down over the past few months. My concern with the 997 is the same as with any non-Turbo/GT3 996: the IMS. I agree with you that the 997 is more desireable than the 996. But dollar for dollar, the decision becomes more difficult when you compare a 996TT vs. a 997 C2/S. Mezger

Definitely affects the C4S.

In the US, the price differences are steeper. Well-loved 996 C2s are about $15k cheaper than any 997 here — about $25k for the 996 and $40k for the cheap’ish 997s. I don’t know how automatics would affect the prices, but I just assume we’re just assuming they don’t matter.

This is my first ever Jalopnik comment, despite spending all my days on here. I’m not sure if people will see this, or if it will remain gray forever.
