Interesting. That’s quite a difference! Hey, at least you have numbers to back you up. I am more irked by the “runs better” type of observations, which are pretty hard to measure...

It’s mostly serious, because I believe the placebo effect is a powerful thing. However, the disclaimer I should’ve put in my post is that I truly haven’t experimented with this much. I can definitely say I have never noticed a difference between clean and dirty oil, at least.

Noted! I’m hoping to keep my next car for 15 years, so you never know what I might need to resort to!

Great, I didn’t know about the German-silver trend. Now it’s all I’m going to see for the rest of my life.

I just came here to see the people who claim they can detect a difference in how their engine runs when they change their oil, or oil weight, or oil brand. Those are always my favorite posts in oil-related discussions.

When I first saw news of this shooting today, the article said (paraphrasing slightly) that this was the “worst mass shooting since February.” It was one of the more fucked up things I’ve read lately. Not even the first mass shooting since February...just the worst one. It’s only fucking May.

HEY! Another angry white guy!

100% Tornado Red, never was much of a question (although I would’ve considered white if I had to - it’s pretty sharp). To be honest, I think the Alltrack looks good in every color. I am not bothered by the different black and silver trim pieces - I think it makes each color look unique. For the interior, I chose

It is still incumbent upon the designer to design a vehicle that allows a minimum of stupid shit, then. I will grant you that some idiot will always find a way to fuck something up, but that in no way removes Tesla’s responsibility to try to counteract it.

Great piece, thanks.

The fallible human driver in an AV is still part of the system, though. It’s worth exploring how the person interacts with the car (or not) and whether the overall car-human system is any safer than your average driver. AVs are supposed to counteract our stupidity, not enhance or encourage it.

Excellent post, thank you.

That’s fair. I can see how a modern VW might be seen as lacking soul, haha. Their competition is improving too.

Good on you...keep pushing that MPG up! I will own an Alltrack soonish, will be interesting to see how I do. It will be a stick shift like yours.

I have a 2018 Alltrack SE with 6MT (in red) on order. The stick shift makes it hard enough to find a car on the lot. If you have ANY other requirements, such as color (I did) or drivers assistance options (I also did), good luck finding a new one within 1000 miles of you, never mind used.

Yes they do. I’m not sure if all the power features translate OK (maybe they do, I just don’t know), but people have definitely done seat swaps. Same with R seats as well.

There’s some consensus that the Mk7 computer is about 7% optimistic in terms of MPG. So, subtract 2-3 MPG from the indicated number. I know I’m being negative...just wanted to point that out. Still decent mileage, but IMO not mind-blowing for highway numbers on a 4-cylinder.

In the U.S., a whole lot of auto writers disagree with you. They seem to like the whole VW driving experience, handling included. Talking about all the Golf derivatives, at least.

Well, pretty much half the Audi/VW lineup uses some derivative of the 2.0T (not an exact number), starting around 2006 in the U.S. So I think you’re going to hear a lot about that engine regardless. It’s not a perfect engine, but it’s not trash either.

You seem to have the statistics pretty well handled. I come to Jalopnik to throw out emotional opinions.
