I just wanted to point out that Clark's 2001: A Space Odyssey novel was actually written concurrently with the script for the film, and was released after the film in 1968. It is based on a few different short stories of his, with one story in particular standing out, The Sentinal. Which was published in 1950.

I've put probably 15 or so hours into the game and I haven't experienced this glitch. Just because it is happening doesn't mean that every person who plays it experiences it.
