Holy crap. So this is what it looks like when an account Kinja “likes” talks about nuclear vs. when I do it. Good for you. Fight the good fight on my behalf, please.

Food for thought: The LC500 is the real Mk5 Supra

Completely disagree. The 2016 Miata absolutely does not “feel slow”. And you will absolutely notice the difference between an LSD and an open diff.

Sorry, I’m not gonna immediately jump on the bandwagon here and demonize the driver. Having spent years in the codriver seat myself, I know what’s being signed up for. And yes, it can often feel like the driver is going to kill you, but that’s how rally goes. I’m going to give the driver the benefit of the doubt here

On the way home from the dealer in my very first car. Only stalled once!

As I’ve mentioned here before, I’m on my fourth Delica. But, I’m fairly certain I’ve found my favorite. A black 1995 Exceed (high top but no glass roof, swiveling captains chairs) with manual transmission. It’s one of my primary daily drivers, and I absolutely love it. It’s as close to perfect as I can imagine it

“It smacks of a little hypocrisy, is all.”

I’m totally ok with this. Underglow was one of the better 90's car fads, and way overdue for a comeback. I say you’re ahead of the curve. Hell yes!

It’s a secluded spot, I’ll give you that. But not quite the middle of nowhere (which I’ve actually been to!)

loLOlololLOLOlololoLOL

Nope, you’re right. It sounds childish. This is what I get for letting my proofreading down for one sentence because I wasn’t in the mood to write a better conclusion. No excuses, you’re spot on. I’ll do better next time.

Super well-said. This isn’t about “defending” the Miata. It’s about the fact that this is a dumb comparison to make.

I mean, it doesn’t seem like much of a choice to me? The Miata is a car, and this is not. I’m sure it’s lots of fun, and I support vehicles that exist for the purpose of fun and not producing impressive-looking numbers. Just, let it stand on its own as a fun toy instead of trying to justify it against actually-usable

Yep, it’s an AP1. The understeer-under-power and oversteer-under-braking behavior is also something they reportedly addressed for the AP2 update.

You wrote, “It’s got a manual transmission, a rev-happy engine up front, rear-wheel drive, a tendency toward oversteer. If Mazda dropped a new Miata with those figures, every single person reading this would be crying joyful tears...”

As always, my responses come from experience and not conjecture.

Ahem.

As a mechanic, I have two simple, but conflicting thoughts come immediately to mind:
1. Ship of Theseus

Hmmmm. While I’m not opposed to increasing emissions standard, I do want to note that California’s rules kinda *do* “take people’s cars away”, in that they prevent certain types of cars from being registered, and certain (popular, enthusiast) modifications from being done- whereas the same would be accepted in other
