I am so tired of media companies being run by wholly incompetent, eager-to-pander-to-the-worst dudes. If I was as bad at my job as Pitaro, I’d resign in shame. To try and go “HEY YOU, I SAID NO POLITICS” when with one of his network’s biggest stars had the common sense to call out racism (something which should not be

Exactly! They have so much in common!

‘Foreshadowing doesn’t equal character development’ is the biggest faux-intellectual bunk ever. Daenerys is among most developed characters in the history of television.

Here is what we explicitly DO know about Daenerys before ‘The Bells’:

She views herself as the rightful ruler of whole of Westeros.
She wants to conquer

I do not want to know what you think about a movie before I see it.

Stephen Colbert has many good and correct and worthwhile takes.

First, the phrase “tracking down a town that gets consumed by an interdimensional donkey” is one of the most Grant-Morrison’s-Doom-Patrol-esque sentences possible :D

You are talking about the original movie where the most remembered bit is of a character being chased by a ghost and getting “Slimed”? Where their is a ghost BJ joke? And a “Lets get this ghost laid” joke? Where there are a bunch of zany chase scenes where they run around like the Keystone cops.

This whole thing is just a clusterfuck. And of course the real victims here are all the victims of future hate crimes (because thanks to President Fuckup they’re increasing significantly ever year) who are going to be ignored by police and the media.

You see where I’m getting at? The culture in context makes ALL the difference in whether or not to identify if something is ‘appropriated’

As someone who loves the mythos, I just want more acknowledgment that while the themes of his stories were unique and ground-breaking, most of them are pretty rote and the plots boring. Replace the “eldritch” language with “exotic” and you basically have crappy dime-novel colonial fiction with shoggoths and fish

This comment is downright Lynchian!

I’m impressed by how civil this discussion was, and I think Gwen really nails it when she says we all make choices, and we all fail at some point. I think the important thing to remember is that it’s okay to have these choices that are important to you, and don’t have to make strict logical sense to others, but

Golden Army is the better of the two movies precisely because it’s more Del Toro than Mignola. I say this as someone who loves Mignola’s work more than any other modern illustrator and have to fight with every drawing I create to not just copy his style. But that indelible quality of Mignola’s illustration is

You know the real problem with voter apathy?

It’s been years, but I remember that there’s a good sword and a bad sword. I never paid attention beyond that, I think maybe you’re trying to find just a regular sword that just does normal sword things?

Fair use has its limits. Parody has its limits. And so on. This breaks all the laws that protect copyright, free or not, requiring the original game or not. Pretty simple.

Baraka Kaseko is black but he’s mostly involved with video production.

This is 2018. Context doesn’t matter.
