I’ve read a few of Sanderson’s books. I got back into fantasy in the mid ‘00s via George R. R. Martin, fell really hard for the work of China Mieville and Joe Abercrombie, then picked up Mistborn via Goodreads reviews.

Yea it’s overdue. The Rock’s presence is the most consistent indicator of a bad movie this side of Uwe Boll or Will Smith.
So if they just cast Pakistani dancers to recreate a dance from an Indian movie, that would be less of a slap in the face?
Is it cultural appropriation to recreate a dance from a fun, blockbuster movie? I understand the offensiveness in appropriating meaningful cultural or religious traditions. But I feel like light weight, crossover media marketed toward an international audience is fair game for international reinterpretations.
It’s actually a detail I was unaware of because I didn’t watch his last special, and haven’t really followed Rock as a comic since the 90s until someone invited me to his show.
Of course what happens in a marriage is no one else’s business. Right up until the point where you choose to broadcast what happens in that marriage, to the entire public, for money, in books and TV shows and social media.
10000 percent. I will be shocked if it’s not the case, and I hope they don’t drag out that reveal for the whole season. I mean at this point isn’t he the only character they’ve shown with any motivation to kill him? They certainly haven’t shown him grieving for his son.
I love everything about this show… except for some of the writing. At least in this last episode. There were a few bits of dialog I thought were pretty awful.
I saw him live a few weeks ago. A massive detail the AVClub is selectively leaving out, to maximize the outrage you’re supposed to feel, is that he’s pointing out that she cheated on him by sleeping with their teenage son’s friend, and then they took interviews about it as a family. The joke is Will Smith had to sit…
I actually like Shoegaze as a term, because it does describe exactly what happens on stage at every shoegaze show.
I think any term that relies on knowledge of an obscure, 43 year old, pre-Windows PC game is not a particularly informative term to the vast majority of gamers.
okay you definitely win nerdiest for arguing about what constitutes nerdiest
One thing I’ve learned over the years: gamers, games media, and the games industry are really really really bad at naming categories of games.
I agree its bad storytelling, but I also don’t think storytelling is what they’re going for. The only real story in Elden Ring is the story of your journey as the player.
That is a great point.
Yea the difficulty is overstated. It’s a narrative that serves as a catchy media hook, but has never felt totally true.
Not against easy modes, but strong disagree that there arent challenge levels in other media. David Lynch movies arent going to fly out of your player, but most people aren’t going make it through Eraserhead.
Look, the only bigger cliche than complaining about how bad The AVClub’s taste has become is complaining about how bad Super Bowl commercials are.
And I can even remember a time when our pop culture websites knew the difference between terrible commercials and the best commercials.
Yea, if you’re trying to convince Harry Potter fans to become allies for trans rights, it’s probably not the best strategy to troll them and try and ruin their $70 purchase.
