Yea it felt like some executive felt the show needed a larger seasonal story arc to make it feel more like a standard B- Netflix drama, instead of embracing the fun episodic madness that made season 1 so refreshing.

The success of EQ’s tank-healer-DPS triangle really killed the MMO genre. Pre-WOW, the genre really had life and devs freely experimented with the humanity based weirdness that resulted from gathering lots of players.
