This! Elect actual liberals in places they can win, and elect more moderate democrats in places where actual liberals cannot win.

I am trying to be optimistic about our midterm chances, but one thing I always know to be true is that the DNC/DCCC has an innate ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

If the app had just been “would you like to punch convicted domestic abuser Chris Brown” I would have signed up for a Snapchat account just to click on the ad.

Ok I am giving you a star because yes but also can we please not make references to the dog in the bin? I just keep seeing it so afraid and alone and trapped and I am really, really sad about that, to put it mildly.

It’s demeaning when money is made from Black music but doesn’t go to Black people.

Quincy Jones would also disagree with the idea that this article has that “black people invented American music.” He goes on to say that Coltrane just jacked Slonimsky. And lets not forget, that yes Bluegrass used a banjo but it used fiddles and guitars too.

Except he literally did not do that. The dress came undone. There is a difference and it says a lot about you that you don’t know that.

Not really. It’s a way of describing someone who traffics in outrage about things they don’t understand.

The person trying to nail him to the cross also is a black woman with a Japanese twitter handle. Let that sink in.

You going to compensate everyone you took from?

African American music was influenced by other people too. Coltrane is literally just Slonimsky, he just jacked that guys theory and got rich doing it. You can’t go around acting like you own music, black people just don’t.

Do you have any proof of that or are you talking out of your ass because “blackness?” The banjo isn’t all there is to bluegrass man.

THIS! People up here talking about “bluegrass is actually African music” because it has a banjo. Bluegrass has fiddles and guitars too. It isn’t owned by black people, for that matter whites don’t own it either.

The instrument in question had one damn string. And bluegrass isn’t just banjo music: there is a guitar and a set of drums and a usually some sort of fiddle in there. None of which are exclusively African in nature, hell the guitar is directly descendant of a European instrument.

They gonna pay white folks for giving them music in the first place? Or where did Coltrane get his music from if not Slonimsky?

White people made music before slavery happened bruh. Black music wouldn’t exist without European influence, from guitar to Coltrane just jacking Slonimsky.

REALLY well put, Michael. Point 3 is something I’ve been thinking a lot about in this context: like, unless you’re exclusively making bluegrass music, you owe a huge amount of credit to black artists. That’s a damn FACT. So where does cultural appropriation start and stop?

I used to drive an old Taurus that had a bad air valve, it caused the engine to rev up and down when I was at stoplights. Not a lot mind you, but you could hear the engine go up and down up and down a little.

Counter-counterpoint: apparently they don’t want people washing their clothes. This is wrong and Patagonia is wrong.

Patagonia can go take its overpriced outwear and stuff it. CLEAN YOUR CLOTHES, PEOPLE.
