Great story! I am glad it turned out this way. Having started my wrenching hobby by spending 1 year getting my first car driveable, I can certainly relate. There were many times in those “early” days of my wrenching career I assumed something was totally dead, only to learn something new to get it running again.

When GM was putting the 2.8/3.1/3.4 OHV motor in almost everything FWD in the 80's-2000's, seeing one with the DOHC 3.4 is pretty cool. Not as many examples of that motor, and installed in cars that become more disposable than desirable to restore.

All the “little stuff” is really not a worry. AC is fixable. So, NP, but with a catch. How is the rust, really? I’d check it out very closely. If rust-free then good deal. But it could turn out to be pretty rough, at which case, no thanks!

I was thinking the same. Kinda like signing a waiver to eat hot wings. You get to tell everyone who really could care less that you had to sign a waiver to eat wings b/c you are a badass. I should probably go read up on some of the older Forumla E posts, but how do they specify standards for batteries? Does each car use a standard type/size battery to keep things competitive or spec?

Oh, don’t get me wrong, drums are perfectly fine for braking on a car like this. I’m more surprised they are still used, component wise I always feel like they are more complex than discs. With so many discs in the parts bins, it seems odd to still roll out drums. One would think the cost of having some models with

Maybe already mentioned but I’m guessing the 4MATIC is the key - the AWD V8 has better traction, the V12 without it has traction issues off the line?

How would he go broke daily driving a new car? Wouldn’t the warranty take care of any issues?

I think Chrylser did some sort of power train unlimited warranty in the mid 2000's if I recall correctly. It may have been an unlimited mile engine warranty. It wasn’t transferable when the car sold though, so yeah it only worked if you held on to the car a long while.
