That’s a good idea, but might be even better (if more on the nose) if, generationally, it goes the other way, starting with the old men and ending with two babies giving each other the hairy eyeball, indicating that the cycle of violence will go on for as long as there are people who will pay to see Death Wish movies.

Normally I would agree, especially given the AV Club’s penchant for shoehorning politics into almost everything these days, but Death Wish has always made a blatant political statement. It would be weird not to comment on the film’s politics, especially given the real-time debate we’re having about guns.

I was going to give this a +1 for username/comment symmetry, but “whiterage6" would honestly be more apropos.

Movies are made by people, people have political views, peoples political views oftentimes make their way into the film they’re making. Something you’d notice if you could lift your slobbering face out of your popcorn bucket and actually use your brain when watching a film.

1) No, I don’t think the survivors care about this movie, and nor should they. Not what I was saying, and I’m not even really certain how you pulled that out of what I did say. I watched the original recently, and if there was ever a movie where the remake should have a black lead, it’s this one. It could be basically the same movie, but it would feel less racist with someone like Denzel Washington doing the killing. Plus, one of the main points of the movie, that inner city violence hurts…

DW3 is Airplane! to the original’s Zero Hour. Monday Morning Quarterback- I would have ended this with Willis getting his brains blown out by a black man he stalked who turned out to be a legal gun owner/non criminal. Fantasy land, but it would mess with everyone watching while nursing a boner.

They can do a double feature with this and the new HEATHERS.

Yeah the Punisher works best when the people he’s up against are way more evil than him. Or when they turned him into a Frankenstien Monster and had him protect an enclave of monsters from evil samurai.

They should postpone this movie until it’s been, say, six months since the last U.S. gun massacre, thus assuring that it would never, ever be released.
